Welcome Emmett Dean!

We welcomed our beloved baby boy into our family on July 14th, 2011. Emmett Dean Stohs was born at 8:03 am weighing 8 lb 2 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long. He was born by scheduled c-section. We were quite surprised that he was a boy since both Greg and I felt we were having a girl! Our first hint was during the surgery when Dr. Taylor said the baby had very broad shoulders and they had to widen my c-section incision. I have to admit it took an hour or so to adjust to the idea that we now have 2 boys! Emmett was born healthy as can be. He was a calm little man too, not even crying until they started to examine him on the warming table! He was able to hang with his Momma in the recovery room and I actually got to watch the nurse give him his first bath. These two things did not happen with Garrett and Avery's births, so it was quite a blessing.

Big brother Garrett and Big sis Avery came up to visit (with Grandpa and Grandma Stohs and Grandpa Reimer) about an hour or so after we settled into the postpartum room. They brought Emmett a balloon! Avery was a little unsure of all the medical equipment and hospital bed. She hung back by the wall during the first visit and wouldn't climb on the bed to sit by me. Garrett was a little quiet, taking it all in, but he did hold his little brother right away! Avery checked out Emmett while Grandpa held him. She said, "He likes me Mommy, he likes me!" We've all been enjoying him every since!!

Doggy Heaven

I told the kids last night that we would be visiting Grandma and Grandpa this weekend. They both shrieked with excitement. Avery said that she wanted to see Abby, Grandma and Grandpa's old yellow lab that recently passed away. Garrett said, "Avery, remember that Abby died. She's in doggy heaven now so she can eat as many dog bones as she wants. Isn't that right, Mom?" How sweet is that?

Merry Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas and hope you did too! We survived 4 days in our house with 7 adults, 5 children age 5 and under, and 3 dogs! It was wonderful to have so much time together with my family, although between chasing our own children around, feeding them, and putting them to bed, we agreed that it still felt that we hardly had time to talk to each other. Thanks Reimer family for road-tripping it to our house this year - good times were had by all!

a BIG train

Greg, Garrett, and Avery were lucky enough to see the biggest working steam engine in the world, The Challenger. It passed thru Herkimer, KS, home of Greg's Grandma Melba. The train was making it's way back from St. Louis, MO to Cheyenne, WY, where it is housed. It stopped overnight in Marysville, KS, so the kids, Greg, and Great-Grandma got a chance to see it up close. The next morning, it flew thru Herkimer at 60 mph as they watched by the tracks. We have some amazing video footage of it coming, puffing up huge clouds of steam in the distance as it gets closer to town. I had to stick around Lincoln for a late meeting at work, so I didn't get to witness this "awesome" train. (Just ignore the strange lady's backside in the first picture. We can thank Greg's photography for that!)

Pumpkin Patch!

We decided to check out a new pumpkin patch this year, ironically it's the one closest to our house! We went to Roca Berry Farm, where we pick strawberries in the springtime. We went on Garrett's birthday, the morning and early afternoon before his party, so it was a busy day for all of us! The kids had a blast in the haunted barns, the corn maze, riding the ponies, and riding the hayrack out to pick pumpkins. Avery rode the biggest pony, Stinky Pete, and Garrett rode Tanner. They both got a kick out of Stinky Pete's name.

Easton

I'm a little behind with everything! Here is a picture of (not so new) cousin Easton, Johnathan & Shelby's little boy. I can't remember exactly how old he was in this picture, but it was the first weekend that Avery & I met him. Garrett & Greg made a trip down when he was born to meet him in the hospital.

Welcome Easton Lee!

Garrett and Avery have a new little cousin! Easton Lee Stohs was born on Monday, Sept 20, weighing in at a solid 9 lb 3 oz. Congratulations Johnathan and Shelby! Greg and Garrett have already met the little guy, but Avery and I will have to wait a few weeks.

I'll post pics when I get some. I've seen some pics on facebook and he's a cutie with light blonde hair!

Happy Father's Day, Greg!

Happy Father's Day to the best Dad and husband we could wish for. Every day with you is a fun adventure! These pictures were taken when we visited the outdoor safari on Mother's Day. Just for the record, you drive very slowly (10 mph) through the animal enclosures, so the kids can safely ride in the front seat!

Annie's Biggest Fan

My sis, Annie, completed a 1/2 marathon last weekend! Congrats on your accomplishment Sis! I had to share this picture of her biggest fan. Garrett was so excited to cheer her on. He proudly wore her medal after the race!

Easter

We had a fun Easter with the kids. We hunted Easter eggs in our backyard on Saturday and visited Greg's family on Sunday. The jelly beans were a hit!

Other Fun Stuff

Avery's been busy "chatting" on my phone lately. She actually called Grandpa Reimer 3 weeks ago and had a full conversation before I even realized it! Grandpa thought I helped her make the call. When we were home to meet Baby Tanner, we got to hang with the family for a short while. Casey enjoyed spending time with his dog cousin, Boscoe, and we got to hang out with Cousin Finn, Annie, Mike, and Grandpa!

Cousin Tanner

It's hard to believe that little cousin Tanner is already 1 month old! He was just 1 week old in this picture. We sure do miss him!

We can't wait to meet the new baby but will have to wait until spring break (which can't come soon enough!!)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! We popped open the champagne last night and toasted to fewer sibling fights and less time outs in the new year. Wish us luck with that! What did you raise your glass to?

Summertime

It's official. Summertime is almost over. Next Tuesday I head back to work. I can't quite wrap my head around that idea yet. We've had a blast this summer. I've loved every minute at home with the kids, although my parenting skills have definitely been tested. Here are a few of my favorite things about summer:
1. the smell of sunscreen on baby soft skin
2. the sand that gets tracked all over my house from the kids' sandbox. this drives me crazy but still makes me smile.
3. sunbleached hair
4. pulling weeds and picking tomatoes in the garden with Garrett
5. pigtails and sundresses
6. chubby baby legs, although these are rapidly turning into skinny toddler legs
7. weekly trips to the zoo (see the above pics)
8. seeing the kids smile and hearing Avery's "choo choo" when we ride the train at the zoo
9. swimming in our blow up pool
10. lazy evenings in the backyard, sipping a cold beer
11. daily walks and regular trips to the nearby park
12. sitting outside with our neighbors by their firepit and chatting into the wee hours
13. water gun fights
14. playing fetch with Casey
15. the list could go on and on....

Perfect

A neighbor visited us today with her grandson. As we chatted in the backyard and watched the kids playing in the sandbox she commented, "This is perfect. You've got the kids, the dog, the garden, the sandbox..."
I have to admit, it feels pretty perfect. I have two healthy beautiful kids, a wonderful husband, and a nice home. Who could ask for more?

Babies, Babies, Babies

Our extended family continues to grow:

Annie & Mike welcomed a new baby BOY on Sunday, May 17th around 9:30 in the morning. His name is Finn Charles Martinez, weighing in at 7 lb 10 oz and 20 inches long. They said he has a lot of dark wavy hair and large hands and feet. Both baby and mom are doing great! I am waiting for email pictures and will try to post one when I get them. We are headed down to meet the new babe over the last weekend of May. I can hardly wait to see my new nephew!

More exciting baby news:

Kimberly (Greg's sis) and Tucker found out on Monday that they are having a baby GIRL! Avery will be thrilled to have a little girl cousin! Congrats Kim & Tucker!

I'm falling a little behind with blogging. The flu bug hit our house over Mother's Day weekend and then I battled a terrible cold this past weekend. My house looks like a disaster zone. And our next two weekends will be spent on the road. So we will see what I can squeeze in during the next 2 weeks!
